Stress Management Center

The Stress Management Center at ABC Resources is a comprehensive treatment program that addresses disorders that result in physical tension, pain, and distress. Such conditions include anxiety, posttraumatic stress, phobias, psychoses, cognitive difficulties, depression, adjustment disorders, etc. These conditions often have a strong physical stress component. This distress can become manifest as headache, facial pain or twitching, muscle tension, neck and back ache or tenderness, numbness, digestive problems, skin problems, disturbed sleep, and hypertension. When left untreated these symptoms can lead to grave discomfort and long term physical consequences including heart disease, stroke, autoimmune disease, and even death.

Despite the frightening prognosis there is strong reason for hope. When properly treated, symptoms of stress can be arrested and reversed and the long term risks eliminated. Treatment at the Stress Management Center is tailored to the individual needs of each client. Services begin with an initial assessment of symptoms and afflicted systems. Then a treatment plan is developed with input from the client and  referring physician.

Treatment interventions at ABC Resources Stress Management Center can be broken into three categories: Cognitive/ Emotional Response, Physical Response, and Reintegration.  Physical responses to stress are involuntary and difficult to control. These include heart rate, adrenal discharge, muscle tension, etc. Similarly, there are cognitive and emotional responses to stress that are also involuntary and can be unmanageable. These involve the degree to which we perceive a threat, the fear we attach, private logic by which we analyze events, etc.

These two forces often feed off each other in a downward spiral leading to distress and disease. By using targeted interventions to break these cycles the individual learns to retrain the mind and body and reintegrate them in a positive proactive response to the day to day stressors that besiege everyone. Cognitive/ Emotional responses tend to be addressed with interventions that incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapies (CBT) and Rational Emotive Therapies (RET). Interventions addressing Physical Responses tend to utilize Physiological Measures (PM) and Biofeedback Techniques (BFT). Reintegration occurs when a relaxed mind and body is established and maintained while paired with increasingly stressful events. Other important treatments combine all domains and include the P-Pod, EMDR, and Educational Support.

The P-Pod or Posterior Musculoskeletal Manipulation and Decompression  Pod is a therapeutic environment wherein the client is seated in a reclining console and covered with a heated blanket while a computerized program manipulates and decompresses various musculoskeletal systems in the back, arms, and legs. While the trunk is warmed cool air is filtered into the chamber to cool the head which reverses the Autonomic Stress Response (ASR) state.

EMDR or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is an eight stage therapy that aids in resolving symptoms resulting from disturbing and unresolved life traumas. When combined with Biofeedback, this therapy can be very useful in decreasing the stress associated with trauma and panic.

Educational support focuses on the areas of nutrition, exercise, and prevention. Each client will receive workbooks and tracking charts to record progress. Stress can be conquered and life IS worth living.
